The highest mountain in Austria, the Grossglockner at 3,797 m, is the "peak" of the Hohe Tauern National Park, but the longest glacier in the Eastern Alps and the largest contiguous stone pine forest in the Eastern Alps also offer breathtaking natural spectacles on over 1,856 square kilometers in the three Austrian states of Salzburg, Tyrol and Carinthia.
In this superlative animal and plant kingdom, in addition to our "BIG FIVE", golden eagle, ibex, chamois, bearded vulture and marmot, around 3,500 plant species and 10,000 animal species can be found. The Hohe Tauern National Park offers a wealth of adventure opportunities.
Several thousand kilometers of well-marked and well-maintained hiking trails, numerous themed trails for independent exploration, excursions and wildlife observations led by national park rangers and much more.
However, even in bad weather you can discover the Hohe Tauern National Park in our exhibitions and visitor centers!
